57 young people aged from 10 to 18 years old completed the survey, however more started it than finished it.
An 8 gb ipod was offered as a prize to one lucky respondent and this was won by Matthew from Uckfield – well done Matthew and enjoy your prize.
Here are a few of the main results:
- You told us that the most important thing in making somewhere a good place to live was activities for teenagers, closely followed by clean streets and adequate education arrangements. And the things needed most improving in Wealden are: activities for teenagers; things like more cinemas and theatres; and cleaner streets.
- The vast majority of you are satisfied with Wealden as a place to live.
- You feel much safer during the day than you do after dark in this area and one of the biggest problems is teenagers hanging around on the streets. You are also concerned about parents who do not take responsibility for the behaviour of their children
- You are concerned about the amount of rubbish and litter lying around.
- You also are concerned about people not treating others with respect, but it is encouraging to note that you think Wealden is a place where people from different backgrounds get on well together.
- You think leisure experiences in Wealden are too costly.
- And finally you like to be involved in decision-making and to be asked for your views on things.
You may be wondering what happens now you have given your views. W4y is making sure that all the agencies in the area like Wealden District Council, Sussex Police and East Sussex County Council are aware of the contents, so that they can feed the results into their discussions and hopefully policies.
