The internet is a great way to find out information and meet new people.
When on the web be careful what you put about your self as anyone can read and see this.
- Be careful when writing your profile on chat websites like Myspace, Facebook and Bebo.
- Never give out your full name, address, school address or telephone number. If you need to tell a good online friend you trust, send them a private message.
- Be aware that your online friends may not be who they say they are.
If you do want to meet a online friend make sure people know your meeting them and take a friend with you, also meet in a busy public place.
- If you talk to someone and the stuff they say doesn’t add up or worries you, delete or block them and tell your parents.
- If someone does put something on the internet about you which offends you report them to the site, if they continue to post things about you report this to the police.
- If someone does write something about you or has a go at you while in a chat room record the evidence.
- If someone posts stuff about you, do not post things about them as the problem will not get resolved and you are as bad as them.
