Having difficulty getting to college...?

Are you stuck in the middle of nowhere?  No public transport?  No car?

If your stuck in the countryside far from college , with no chance of getting a car , a bus or even a lift, don’t despair.

There is something you can do about it

A scheme is being launched to help solve the transport problems of rural young people who want to pursue further education but can’t get to college or work placements.

Education should not come to an abrupt end just because you can’t drive or get a lift. That’s why we are launching Wealden Wheels 2 Learn." said one of the team behind the project Nigel Bullock, Vocational Co-ordinator for Beacon Community College in Crowborough.

We are offering mopeds and rider training to young people aged 16 -19 who need wheels to get to school or college. The user will be charged £10 per week, but every week £5 will be refunded providing the moped is returned in satisfactory condition at the end of the loan period. Moped numbers are limited, so only the most deserving applicants will be able to benefit.

As well as the loan of a moped, successful participants will receive a safety helmet, protective jacket, gloves and fluorescent tabard. The participant will also receive free Compulsory Basic Training to use the moped, and be covered for the full cost of servicing, insurance and road fund licence for the vehicle. All the participant will have to do is put the fuel in.

We now want to hear from students who are hampered by poor transport connections from continuing with their further education at the five Wealden Community Colleges: Beacon, Uplands, Uckfield, Heathfield and Hailsham; or receiving new skills training at the new Wealden Skills Centre at Uckfield.”  Says Philip Ayers from East Sussex Rural Transport Partnership.
