W4Y were keen to find out a little more about Tahu, so we asked her some questions and this is what she said…
W4Y – Tahu, thanks for giving up your time to carry out this interview. What made you want to be a Youth Cabinet Member for the area?
Tahu – So I could get young people’s views across to decision makers.
W4Y – What in your opinion are the three most important issues for young people in Wealden at the moment?
Tahu – I think there are lots of important issues facing young people in Wealden, this is a difficult one to tie it down to three. Firstly there should be more places to go and things to do for young people. I feel really strongly about this, there aren’t many buses about, especially not in rural areas. Secondly I would also like to see more cultural awareness. And thirdly I would like to see more socialisation between young people in Wealden, get young people talking to each other from different areas of Wealden.
W4Y – if you could change just one thing in this area for young people, what would it be?
Tahu – I am not sure change is the right word, but what I would like to do is to have a ‘Big Party’ and get people from many cultures in the area to attend. There would be lots of different types of food and it would encourage and promote a greater awareness and understanding of the different cultures.
W4Y – That sounds like a fab idea and a lot of fun, let us know how you get on with organising that one. Do you have to attend loads of boring meetings?
Tahu – Not really. It’s great, people tend to come to us rather than the other way around.
W4Y – What’s the best and worst thing about your role?
Tahu – The best is being able to campaign for the issues that are important to young people and being able to talk to people who will listen to what you have to say. The worst is trying to juggle the workload and demands on my time.
W4Y – Have you heard of the Wealden Youth Website before this interview and have you used it?
Tahu – Yes I have heard of it and have visited it on several occasions. It is useful having all that information in place.
W4Y – now than Tahu lets find a little more about you, here are five quick fire questions…
